Mini bio

  • Constantine Markoulakis was born in Athens, Greece, in July 24, 1970. Upon graduating the American College of Athens in 1988 he was accepted in Greek National Theater's School of Dramatic Art, of which he graduated with highest honors in 1991. Since then he has been working steadily in theater, movies and television series, combining work in artistic "off-Broadway" theaters of renowned directors with successful movies and prime time T.V series of high quality, and becoming one of Greece's most prominent and popular actors. In 2003 he had the honor of being chosen by internationally renowned director Michael Cacoyannis to play the lead Greek National Theater's production of 'Hamlet'. Almost immediately after that he starred in National Theater's production of 'Hippolytus' at the 14,000seat Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. His theater credits include challenging productions he initiated, such as 'Caligula', 'The Collector' , 'Stones in his pockets', and 'Festen' , which were of artistic value but highly popular as well. In 2007 he collaborated with film and theater producer Giorgos Lykiardopoulos, to make 'Coyot' production company, based in 'Chora' theater, with lots of interesting productions and innovative ideas. In movies and TV he has always been selective. His latest TV feature is Yungermann (2007), the most expensive TV series in Greek TV, based on a famous epic novel about the life of a Russian immigrant in Athens during the first half of the 20th century. His latest film feature is Eden Is West (2009), an multinational production shot in Crete and Europe by internationally acclaimed director Costa-Gavras. From his marriage with Ersi - Electra Xenakis he has a son, George - Ikarus, born in June 2005.
