Biography

With one hundred and forty titles to his credit, from the years before the Civil War to the 1990s, he participated in great classics of Spanish cinema.

Apart from his work as a director of photography, he stands out for his work restoring old films for the Madrid Community Film School (ECAM) and the Spanish Film Library from the mid-1980s, with technology designed by him.

In the 1960s, he left film for about four years to work in advertising, which provided him with a higher income by working less and allowing him to devote more time to research. He began to develop machines to restore old films, which earned him the Juan de la Cierva Prize for Research in 1974. He invested the prize money in further deepening his technical research and experiments that led him to discover new filming systems and anamorphic lenses .

Juan Mariné was a Spanish director of photography and film restorer.

Already in his adolescence, he frequently visited the Arenys del Mar film club. There, the projector used to break down regularly and so Mariné had his first contact with these devices: trying to fix them so that he could continue watching the films that he enjoyed so much. Thanks to this ingenuity and curiosity, a year later he managed to get these cameras to work with The Eighth Commandment .
