Marinella(1938-2026)

Marinella was one of the defining voices of modern Greek popular music, a singer whose long and influential career made her a central figure in folk and laiko song for generations. Raised in a Pontic refugee family in Thessaloniki, she grew up in a home filled with music, performance, and resilience, and began appearing in public while still a child through radio, advertisements, and children's theatre. After initially stepping away to complete her schooling, she returned to the stage as a teenager, first in theatre and then in music, when an unexpected opportunity to replace an ailing singer revealed the power and range of her voice.
