Biography

Adela Marculescu was born on December 21, 1938 in Aiud, Romania. She was an actress, known for Hyperion (1975), Diplomatic Siege (1999) and A Guest at Dinner (1986). She was married to Emmerich Schäffer. She died on July 23, 2026 in Bucharest, Romania.

Became an actress at the "IL Caragiale" National Theater in Bucharest in 1964, a stage to which she remained faithful for more than 60 years and which she served with exemplary dedication, until the last moments of her life.

Since 2001 she has been an honorary citizen of the municipality of Bucharest.

Since her debut on the National Theatre stage in "Strand the Pearls" (1964), Adela Marculescu has embodied dozens of characters from national and universal dramaturgy, collaborating with the greatest Romanian directors.

She marked the history of Romanian theater with the role of Clytemnestra in the memorable show "Electra - An Ancient Trilogy" (1990), an internationally referenced production, directed by Andrei Serban.

Marculescu made her film debut in 1965 with the film "Serbariler galante" directed by Rene Clair.
