Biography

Barry Mann was born on February 9, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. He is a composer and producer, known for An American Tail (1986), Muppet Treasure Island (1996) and Top Gun (1986). He was previously married to Cynthia Weil.

Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987.

His biggest hit as a singer was "Who Put the Bomp?" in 1961, in which he thanks the songwriter who wrote the "nonsense" lyrics for many of the old "doo-wop" vocal groups of the '50s and '60s, because they "made my baby fall in love with me". In truth, Mann himself wrote many of those songs, with his writing partner and wife Cynthis Weil.
