Biography

  • A native of Seattle, Washington, Mankuma made Vancouver his home during the turbulent years of the Vietnam war. This unique actor with an easy grace on film despite his commanding six foot, 230 lb. girth, quickly established a following among producers and directors, building an impressive resume of film, television and theatre credits, and becoming one of Canada's busiest actors.

    Blu Mankuma is also an avid musician, singer, songwriter and stage actor, who has provided voiceovers for radio and appeared in numerous television commercials. He and his family, including sons Rene and Cusee, reside in Vancouver.

  • He made guest appearances on all three of the longest running North American science fiction series: The X-Files (1993), Stargate SG-1 (1997) and Smallville (2001), as well as on Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda (2000).
  • His real name was Michael George, but he decided to adopt an African name he created himself, "Nakimo Mankuma." Because he was in a band called "King Blue, Lady Rose and The Exotics," of which he was the "King Blue," he later became nicknamed "Blue," but when his drummer, Dave Mackinnon, suggested he drop the "E," he immediately liked the suggestion, and became Blu Mankuma.
