Klaus Manchen completed his acting training at the Berlin-Niederschöneweide State Drama School from 1961 to 1964.

In 1979 he received the Art Prize of the GDR.

From 1968, in addition to his work on stage and in front of the camera, he also worked as a radio play narrator in over 420 productions. He initially worked for the state radio station of the GDR (including Neumann, zweimal klingeln), later in reunified Germany he was heard in several productions for Deutschlandradio Kultur.

Born in Breslau in 1936, he moved to Berlin after the war, where he trained at the State Drama School in Schöneweide (now the Ernst Busch School) from 1961, the year the Berlin Wall was built, and met his first wife, the actress Christine Schorn. As a graduate in 1964, he achieved all that could be achieved: A Shakespeare title role and a permanent place in an ensemble in the capital of the GDR and the theater.
