Biography

Richard Maltby was born on June 26, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for Miss Potter (2006), These Old Broads (2001) and The Vaughn Monroe Show (1955). He was married to Phyllis Adele Smith and Virginia Hosegood. He died on August 19, 1991 in Santa Monica, California, USA.

Worked as arranger for Benny Goodman and Lawrence Welk's TV show. Prior to that was musical director for CBS radio in Chicago (1940-45). Ten years in New York as musical associate for Paul Whiteman at ABC radio. Formed his own band in the 1950's, recording for RCA and Columbia. At one time voted best swing band by Downbeat Magazine. Maltby had solid hits with "St. Louis Blues Mambo" and "Themes from The Man With the Golden Arm" (top 20).
