Biography

Amin Malik (died on 31 Dec 1970) was considered to be one of the pioneer film producer / directors of Pakistani film industry in the early years of newly independent Pakistan. He was born in the historically significant locality of the city of Lahore, Pakistan, called 'Rang Mahal'. He finished his basic education in his hometown Lahore. From his teenage years, he had the desire to act in films. He was introduced into the film world as an actor by the then famous film director Roop K. Shorey in his film Mangti (1942). After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, he migrated to Pakistan and became a film producer and director in his hometown, Lahore. His first film, as a director, was Judai (1950). Then he made many hit films like Pengaan (1956), Palkaan (1957) and Chooriyan (1963). He mentored and encouraged many new film actors in the 1950s including actor Akmal . He had a reputation of 'low tolerance' in the film industry for actors who did not perform at his expected level of quality. This was stated by his daughter, after his death, in an interview to Pakistan Television.
