Károly Makk was born on 22 December 1925 in Berettyóújfalu, Hungary. He was a director and writer, known for Another Way (1982), Love (1971) and The Gambler (1997). He was married to Andrea Zsiga Kiss, Marianne Krencsey, Virág Dőry and Hanna Dömötör. He died on 30 August 2017 in Budapest, Hungary.

Member of the &#39;Official Competition&#39; jury at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival in 1980.

Member of the &#39;Official Competition&#39; jury at the 44th Venice International Film Festival in 1987.

From 2011, president of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts.
