Mary Madeiras

Mary Madeiras is a three-time Emmy Award director whose diverse experience spans over 30 years of the best in class at the leading television networks in news, sports, talk shows and daytime dramas in New York and Los Angeles. Throughout her career, Mary has been responsible for nearly one half of one billion dollars in best-in-class broadcast and advertising budgets. Recently, Mary directed her first film, Water Balloon, a short comedy about a 'just turned 40' man turning back the clock with four friends from high school. It was entered in film festivals nationwide. Mary also directed Guardian Angel, a music video starring Brian Austin Green. Mary was the director of CBS This Morning, the live daily two-hour news/talk show with hosts Gayle King, Charlie Rose and Norah O'Donnell. During Mary's time there, the ratings continued to climb on this fast-paced multi-camera program where she applied her own innovative style of directing. Soon after CBS, Mary also trained as a director at MSNBC News. Prior to her live news and drama direction, Mary worked on NBC's 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea and received her first Emmy Award. Also at this time, Mary worked freelance on music and dance productions for Tatge Productions in New York City and for MTV International in New York. Mary began her television news career as a staff production assistant, associate director and director for WCBS-TV and CBS News in New York. As a director Mary became a team leader in global news gathering and quickly learned the value of powerful storytelling. With lightning-speed decision-making, she was responsible for spontaneously and creatively turning around live breaking news for an evolving global audience. Mary also worked at CBS Sports and for the NFL. This adrenaline-inducing work included airing the NFL games and their commercials to designated areas of the US. During her time at CBS Sports, Mary was responsible for more than $125M in television advertisements. Prior to this, CBS Network executives handpicked Mary to direct CBS' innovative talk show, The Morning Program, a live daily 90-minute network news/magazine/talk show which was televised before a live audience and starred Mariette Hartley and Rolland Smith. Mary moved on to network daytime programming where her distinctive talents culminated in Emmy Award-winning direction for seven top-rated US daytime dramas for the CBS, ABC and NBC television networks in New York and Los Angeles. In recognition of excellence in American daytime television programming, Mary received two Emmy awards for outstanding direction for ABC's General Hospital and NBC's Another World. She also won a Directors Guild of America award for Another World. Described as 'an actor's director', Mary has an exceptional ability to compellingly transform story to the screen through dynamic visuals, an instinctive application of pace and timing and the careful and sensitive guidance of actors to reach their highest potential, all within time and budget constraints. Mary studied the craft of acting at the Practical Aesthetics Acting Workshop and the Actors Playhouse in New York City. Shortly after, she directed her first play, Savage in Limbo at the Acting Studio in New York City. Mary also worked at John Blair and Company, a top New York rep firm that specializes in buying and selling television advertising time for CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliated stations across the US. Mary managed and executed contracts totaling more than $100M for the top US advertising companies and television stations. Also at this time, Mary studied video editing and worked as an editor on the documentary, Teenage Girls; Three Portraits, which placed 2nd in the American Film Festival that year. Proficient in Final Cut Studio Pro and Adobe Premier Pro, Mary applies her editing skills today in a variety of her projects. Mary's Emmy-winning experience has resulted in her recent launch of her company, Madeira Impact, a social impact company with a vision to transform traditional media into social impact entertainment. Mary's differentiator involves a twofold approach: to apply award-winning principles of television and media to create compelling 'transmedia'. Mary's passion is to move the masses to take action that result in self-empowerment and positive measurable social change. A native New Yorker, Mary graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Her music background has been a central, driving force throughout her career. Music demands a peripheral vision with split-second timing, which has fueled Mary's ability to take on enormous challenges in live television and drama direction.
