- Ben Maddow was born on August 7, 1909 in Passaic, New Jersey, USA. He was a writer and director, known for The Asphalt Jungle (1950), The Savage Eye (1959) and Intruder in the Dust (1949). He was married to Flier, Freda. He died on October 9, 1992 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- American screenwriter, novelist and photography critic, educated at Columbia University. After graduating, he worked for three years as an orderly and technician at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and for another three years as an investigator for the New York City Bureau of Welfare. During World War II, he worked as a scenarist for the First Motion Picture Unit of the Army Air Force. In feature films, he is best remembered for his collaboration with John Huston on the script of The Asphalt Jungle (1950).
- Although Maddow went for several years without getting credit for any screenplays, and had undoubtedly been connected with various left-wing causes as a young man, he may not have been simply a victim of the blacklist, as he always claimed. Some have suggested that he had, in fact, informed on other left-wing figures in secret.
