Biography

Peter Madden was born on August 9, 1904 in Ipoh, Malaysia. He was an actor, known for From Russia with Love (1963), The Message (1976) and The Avengers (1961). He was married to Marion Snelling and Mary Jordan. He died on February 24, 1976 in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, England, UK.

His deep gravelly voice

Reedy, squinty-eyed, British character actor of glum countenance. Variously worked as a magician's assistant, a racing driver and stand-up comedian, before becoming a newsreader for the BBC. Subsequently acted in films, television and radio, often playing officious or bureaucratic types. Effective as Inspector Lestrade opposite Douglas Wilmer's Sherlock Holmes in the TV series of 1965.

I'm generally cast as a baddie because I've got such a miserable bloody face. Thank God I never wanted to be a star.
