Trivia

  • Winner of seven Emmy Awards, he was often called "the sultan of sequins, the rajah of rhinestones."
  • Mackie was hired by Angie Jones, NBC Burbank Television's Wardrobe Supervisor, as a costume design illustrator in the early 1960s. On staff with the NBC costume shop, he illustrated costume designs for the costume designers working on the studio's Network productions. Ray Aghayan, designing The Dinah Shore Chevy Show (1956), used Mackie to illustrate his designs.
  • Debuted his first line of furniture.
  • Father of son Robin Gordon Mackie (B. October 15, 1959) with Lulu Porter. Robin started using drugs at 15 and by the time he was in his early 20s had lost interest in almost everything, though he worked occasionally as a makeup artist. Robin died of complications from AIDS on March 15, 1993 in Los Angeles after a long battle with drugs.
  • Mackie attended Pasadena City College, followed by taking drawing and illustration classes at the Chouinard Art Institute (now known as CalArts), which was located in Los Angeles.

Quotes
