  • Mr Mackenzie joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera company as a tenor chorister in 1954, leaving in 1956, before re-joining in 1962. As well as appearing in the chorus, he also performed in the principal roles of Box in "Cox and Box" and the Defendant in "Trial by Jury", as well as in the smaller roles of the 1st Yeoman in "The Yeomen of the Guard" and Frencesco in "The Gondoliers". In 1970 he went behind the scenes of the D'Oyly Carte, acting as the company's Assistant Manager from 1970 until 1979, although he still appeared occasionally on stage. In 1979 he become the company's business manager, a job he held until the company's temporary demise in 1982.
