Before moving to Los Angeles, California (1970), Ms. MacGregor worked as a stage actress on Broadway, off Broadway and in regional theatre in and around New York City.

Resided at the Motion Picture & Television Fund residences in Woodland Hills, California. After her retirement, she occasionally wrote, directed and produced plays for the Wee Hollywood Vedanta Players, a children's theater group.

Katherine MacGregor passed away on November 13, 2018, two months away from what would have been her 94th birthday on January 12, 2019.

She studied acting under N. Richard Nash, Sanford Meisner and Stella Adler.

She was a lifelong Democrat.

After overcoming alcoholism in the 1970's, Katherine Macgregor converted to Hinduism.
