Sona MacDonald was born on May 11, 1961 in Vienna, Austria. She is an actress, known for 360 (2011), Die Präsidentin (1982) and Kommissar Rex (1994).

First cousin once removed from American film and Broadway actress Cameron Adams.

Sona MacDonald means literally "Happy, Son of Donald" in Irish. MacDonald is an anglicized form of "Mac Domhnall", Son of Donald. In the more traditional sense, a Donald's daughter would be given a name in the style "Ní Dhomhnall" or "Nic Dhomhnall", while his son would be named "Ó Domhnall" or "Mac Domhnall". When Irish and Scottish names were anglicized, the Ó/Mac forms got more recognition and also became familial surnames, thus being now used for both boys and girls.
