Biography

Ian Macbeth, is a British sound designer with a career spanning film, television, and video games. Originally torn between becoming a film editor or a cameraman, he ultimately found his true passion in sound design, drawn to its creativity and immersive storytelling potential.

Over the years, Ian has worked on some of the industry's best acclaimed productions, including by directors Werner Herzog, Asif Kapadia, Hugh Hudson, Liliana Cavani, and Mike Newell. His film and television credits include the award-winning Ripley's Game (starring John Malkovich and Dougray Scott), Birthday Girl (starring Nicole Kidman), Invincible (starring Tim Roth), I Dreamed of Africa (starring Kim Basinger), Notting Hill (starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts), My Life So Far (starring Colin Firth), Comic Act (starring Stephen Moyer and David Schneider), and the crime classic Donnie Brasco (starring Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, and Michael Madsen).

In the world of video games, Ian has contributed to some of the biggest franchises, including Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin's Creed: Unity, and Harry Potter titles. In 2019, his team won a TIGA Award for Best Audio Design for Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey. He has also worked on the globally popular strategy game Factorio.

Now based in the Czech Republic, Ian continues to push the boundaries of sound design, crafting immersive audio experiences across multiple mediums.
