Biography

Darling Légitimus was born on November 21, 1907 in Le Carbet, Martinique. She was an actress, known for Last Tango in Paris (1972), The Wages of Fear (1953) and Sugar Cane Alley (1983). She died on December 7, 1999 in Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, France.

Was a model for Pablo Picasso and Paul Belmondo. She was also part of 'La revue Nègre' of 'Joséphine Baker'.

Member of the "Compagnie des Griots" directed by Robert Liensol the first French company of black actors. In that troupe,she was with her son Théo Légitimus, Jenny Alpha, Bachir Touré, Toto Bissainthe, Thimotée Bassari, Lydia Ewandé, Danièle Van Berkeycke. They created plays by Jean Genet and Aimé Césaire.

Wife of journalist Étienne Légitimus. Her father-in-law Hégésippe Jean Légitimus wast the first elected black member of French Assemblée nationale in the 3rd Republic.
