Biography

Having served as writer, producer or star in numerous film and television projects for nearly twenty years, Allie Raye's colleagues find it hard to imagine the award-winning artist not standing among giants some day.

After honing her skills for seven years as a stand-up comedienne on the East Coast, Allie made the move to Los Angeles to further pursue her dreams of acting, producing and writing in the film and television industry.

2002 was a banner year for Allie the actress. She performed alongside Tom Cruise in the box office hit "Minority Report" (in a role written specifically for her after Steven Spielberg saw her audition tape) and Eric Stoltz directed her in an episode of Once and Again. Like Spielberg, Stoltz created additional scenes for Allie after observing her work.

She continued with guest appearances on numerous TV hits including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Emmy-winning The Practice and TV's long-running hit, ER. Allie has been featured in three hot music videos: Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be A Redneck If" (directed by Weird Al Yankovic) and Scott Grimes' "Sunset Blvd." She re-teamed with Weird Al for his "Amish Paradise."

Allie's numerous credits as multi-tasking artisan include producing, writing and starring in "Purple Rose", the award-winning musical "A Perfect Life" and "Charity", which she co-wrote with actor Douglas Spain (who also directed). Additional festival favorites include the spoofs "Jewz N the Hood" and "Queer Eye for the Homeless Guy" (with Paul Sand).

Allie guest-starred as Carlos Mencia's redneck wife on Comedy Central's hit "Mind of Mencia" and on the big screen, in "Domino" with Oscar nominees Kiera Knightley and Mickey Rourke (directed by Tony Scott) and the Indy film "Carts" with TV veteran Ted Lange and her "Charity" collaborator, Douglas Spain.

Allie is a series regular in the popular web series "Featherweight."

For the past 18 years, Allie has worked as a character actress and became known as the "funny, fat redhead over 300 lbs." She performed alongside Tom Cruise in "Minority Report", in a role written for her after Steven Spielberg saw her audition tape. She's been directed by Eric Stoltz in "Once and Again" and was lucky enough to work with Tony Scott, who directed her in the film "Domino." Allie continued with guest appearances on numerous TV hits and was almost at the top of her career. She lived by her own rules and refused to believe that she could not make it as a plus size actress in Hollywood. It has proven not only to Allie, but also to those around her, that dreams can come true.

But, Allie became very complacent with her weight since she got work as the fat girl. However, it was at the risk of becoming very unhealthy. She knew she had to make a choice if she wanted to live long enough to book another gig. Allie's highest weight was 352. She was eating her way to the top.

Even though Allie never lost her sense of humor, in this case, it was not a laughing matter. The doc suggested gastric bypass, as a last resort. She was very much against surgery, but knew she had reached the moment in her life where the road ended and she'd have to choose which path to take. She chose to live a healthier life.

Allie had RNY Gastric Bypass on March 25, 2010. Allie has said that there are people who think weight loss surgery is the easy way out. However, she has blogged, shared and written that this was the hardest thing she ever did in her life.

Alliie was raised to believe that she'd find love if she lost weight. Or, be happy and successful if she was thin. Allie concluded that thin equaled success, happiness and marriage. So to her, fat equaled failure, unattractiveness, self sabotaging, etc. It couldn't have been further from the truth. Today, she's thin and has been doing all the right things. She's lost 210 lbs, changed her entire life, walked away from her acting career (reluctantly) and contrary to what others might believe, it did not bring instant success, love or happiness. Instead, it brought more challenges.

Now, 3 years later and no longer a plus-size woman, she is healthy but still trying to grasp that acting is not in her world. Allie is now like a child discovering her toes and fingers for the first time.

She is putting all of her plus-size scripts and stand up jokes, etc. out there. She has some wonderfully funny and original scripts that a plus-size actress would kill to do. There are roles that are generally not written for the bigger woman.

According to Allie and her blogs, she talks about all of this being a journey; a new adventure. She is still a writer and a producer but has relocated after 22 years to Spokane, WA.
