- A former scenery painter, he established Sunny South Film Company in 1912 at Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, with most films shot around the old Shoreham Fort. He later built a large glasshouse studio nearby, which was destroyed by fire in 1923. He went on to establish a holiday camp at Emsworth, Hampshire with his four sons.
