Biography

Ernst Luz was born in 1878 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a composer, known for The Prisoner of Zenda (1922), Forget Me Not (1922) and Prudence, the Pirate (1916). He died in October 1937.

As musical director of the Loews chain of theaters in the silent era, he supervised an army of 1600+ musicians and 50 organists and compiled music cue sheets for a huge number of films.

In 1912 he developed a system he named "Motion Picture Synchrony" - a method of selecting appropriate musical accompaniments based on color-coding.
