Biography

Alvin Lucier was born on May 14, 1931 in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA. He was a composer, known for Enter the Void (2009), Cry Dr. Chicago (1971) and Circles (1969). He was married to Mary Lucier and Wendy Stokes. He died on December 1, 2021 in Middletown, Connecticut, USA.

At an early age, he learned to play the drums. His main interest was jazz, but hearing a recording of Arnold Schönberg's "Serenade" attracted him to contemporary classical music.

Avant-garde composer who utilized alarm clocks, umbrellas, bird-calls, bowls, and brain waves in his compositions.

He graduated from Yale University, and received a master of fine arts degree at Brandeis.
