Biography

Manuel Lourenzo was born on April 15, 1943 in Ferreira do Valadouro, Lugo, Galicia, Spain. He was an actor, known for Mareas vivas (1998), Dame fuego (1994) and El baile de las ánimas (1994). He died on August 10, 2025 in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain.

He won the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in 1997-as well as titles such as Flores de Dunsinane (2009) and Suite Artabria (2017) in which he won the Álvaro Cunqueiro Prize.

He was one of the founders of the group O Facho (1965), the Teatro Circo-the first independent Galician theater group-and the Escola Dramática Galega (Galician Dramatic School) in 1978.

Trained in acting at the Barcelona Theater Institute before returning to Galicia in the 1960s and becoming one of its greatest cultural promoters.

Received the Academy of Arts' Honorary Award in 2021.

He was also named honorary professor of the Higher School of Dramatic Art of Galicia and honorary member of the Association of Writers in the Galician Language.
