Pierre Loti was born on 14 January 1850 in Rochefort, Charente-Inférieure [now Charente-Maritime], France. He was a writer, known for Le roman d'un spahi (1936), Le roman d'un spahi (1914) and Pêcheur d'Islande (1959). He was married to Jeanne Amélie Blanche Franc de Ferrière. He died on 10 June 1923 in Hendaye, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France.
