Born in New York city, son of black-listed director Joseph Losey and fashion designer/author Elizabeth Hawes, Gavrik was brought up in Hollywood and New York. He followed his father into exile in England during the McCarthy Hollywood witch hunts. Gavrik came to the UK and studied Economics at the University of London. He entered the UK film industry as trainee assistant editor in 1961 and has since worked around world in all aspects of filmmaking amassing over 24 line producer/producer credits to his name. From the 1980s to the present day he has been a producer and production consultant on a large number of international feature films and has specialist experience in setting up co-financing structures in the USA and Canada. More recently Gavrik has worked as a consultant setting up film finance and completion guarantees. He is a lecturer on the subject and has also taught practical production at both Bristol and Exeter Universities. His 1980 feature film, BABYLON, has had such a significant cultural impact that is now taught as part of film making courses at schools across the UK. Gavrik is currently developing Dying Brave, a feature film co written by his son, film director Marek Losey.
