- (1953 to 1968) He joined the faculty of Stanford University in Palo, Alto, California and served as head of the drama department from 1963 to 1968. While at Stanford he founded the Stanford Repertory Theatre and was active in San Francisco's Actors' Workshop.
- (2015) He was original set designer for William Shakespeare's play, "Antony and Cleopatra," in an Oregon Shakespeare Festival production at the Elizabethan Stage Theatre in Ashland, Oregon. Bill Rauch was artistic director.
- (1968 to 1990) He joined the University of Washington School of Drama faculty in Seattle and retired from the university as professor emeritus in 1990. While there, he acted and directed at Seattle Repertory Theatre (SRT), Empty Space Theatre, Intiman Theatre and A Contemporary Theatre (ACT).
