In November 1922, she was arrested for possession of morphine and atropine. Her dependence on alcohol and painkillers contributed to her death from a heart attack at the Lincoln Hotel in New York City, on July 12, 1943, aged 66.

Scottish actress, singer, mimic, vaudevillian, and music hall performer, on stage from 1893. She went to Hollywood with a Shakespearean company two years later and decided to settle there. She later pursued a successful career on Broadway as a burlesque performer and mimic.

In her marriage to Dr. A.H. Waterman, she had one son named Peter.
