Short, stocky, balding character actor who found fame on British TV in The Bill (1984) but became an alcoholic and died in a clinic attempting to dry out less than a week after being dismissed from the series. He had 8 children, one adopted and another who died while still a baby. Three of his children also played his characters children in The Bill. He did a lot of UK stage work in the 1970s including "What The Butler Saw" by Joe Orton.

    A chronic alcoholic. he was sacked from ITV's The Bill (1984) for turning up drunk and for not having learnt his lines. Within days, he was admitted to a clinic in Burton upon Trent for detoxification and was administered Antabuse, but left the premises to drink. He returned to the clinic in an intoxicated state, retired to bed, fell asleep, then choked on his vomit.
