- John Linehan was born in 1952 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is an actor and writer, known for Divorcing Jack (1998), Give My Head Peace (1998) and May's Panto Party (2009). He has been married to Brenda Linehan since 1975. They have two children.

- He has two daughters, Donna (born 1978) and Kerry (born 1983), and one grandson Johnny (born 1999).
- He was diagnosed as suffering from syringomyelia (rare disease affecting the spinal cord and the central nervous system) in the early 1980s. He underwent a brain operation in 1983 to correct the problem. He subsequently suffered meningitis and had a lumbar puncture to help with the pain. Since the operation he has experienced muscle wastage and little feeling in his left side.
