He liked Edge of Tomorrow (2014) because he got to reshoot the same scenes until he got them right, a result of the film being set in a time warp.

Got to read the script for Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) for the first time on the set of The Bourne Identity (2002), but rejected it. Brad Pitt then gave it to him for a second time after Liman had finished The Bourne Identity (2002).

He wanted to do Edge of Tomorrow (2014) because it showed a role Tom Cruise hadn't done yet; someone very bad at what they do.

Attended and graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island (1988).

Originally did not want to cast Scott Wolf in Go (1999) because Katie Holmes was already in the movie, and he did not want the movie to star two television actors. However, he saw him talking in a hallway with Jay Mohr and realized that the chemistry between the two would be good in the movie.

The movie I end up with is the movie I aspired to make.

I don't really analyze my process. I do know that if it's not right, I won't move on. I'm tenacious to a fault about that.

[on Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow (2014)] Tom innately understands that audiences come to the theatre not to watch a god but to see a good movie, and he will do everything in his power to make the film as great as possible. Nobody takes the trust of the audience more sacredly than him. When I'm working on a film, I think about how it will play with a tiny audience of friends whose opinions I respect, basically a 40-bloc radius from my apartment in Manhattan. Tom is thinking how it will play with the entire planet Earth.
