    Began acting at the Deutschen Theater in Cape Town, South Africa, at the age of eighteen. In Germany from 1928, initially in theatrical productions, later also in films (including a leading role in Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933)). Moved to Austria, but fled from there after the Anschluss. Briefly settled in Switzerland, performing on stage in Zurich. Returned to Germany after the death of her partner in 1938.
