Biography

Rolf Liebermann was born on October 14, 1910 in Zürich, Switzerland. He was a producer and director, known for Die Hochzeit des Figaro (1967), Der Freischütz (1968) and Don Giovanni (1979). He was married to Hélène Vida. He died on January 2, 1999 in Paris, France.

President of the 'Official Competition' jury at the 39th Berlin International Film Festival in 1989.

President of the jury at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. He was responsible for moderating and finalising the results of the seven international juries judging the competition.

In the 1930s Lieberman was associated with Lale Andersen (Lili Marleen).

He served as the Artistic Director of the Hamburg State Opera from 1959-1973 and again from 1985-1988. He was also Artistic Director of the Paris Opera from 1973-1980.
