Desmond Leslie was born on 29 June 1921 in Castle Leslie, Glaslough, County Monaghan, Ireland. He was a writer and composer, known for The Venusian (1954), Stranger at My Door (1950) and A for Andromeda (1961). He was married to Jennifer Helen Strong and Agnes Bernelle. He died on 24 February 2001 in Antibes, Alpes-Maritimes, France.

In 1955, with Brinsley le Poer Trench (Earl Clancarty), he founded the UFO magazine, "The Flying Saucer Review". In 1953, he authored a book on UFO's titled "The Flying Saucers Have Landed." With friend and astonomer Patrick Moore, Leslie wrote the satircal science fiction novel, "Space Race" (1965?).
