Leo XIII was born on March 2, 1810 in Carpineto Romano, Rome, French Empire [now Lazio, Italy]. He died on July 20, 1903 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

Pope Benedict XVI surpassed his longevity record in 2020, however since Benedict had abdicated several years earlier (him being Pope Emeritus), Leo still holds the record for eldest-reigning Pope (at age 93 years).

At 25 years, he is the fourth-longest reigned Pope in history.

He was the first Pope to be captured on film.

He is the earliest born person on record ever to appear on film.
