Carole Laure in Get Out Your Handkerchiefs (1978)

Biography

Carole Laure

Overview

  • Born
    August 5, 1948 · Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada
  • Birth name
    Carole Champagne

Mini bio

  • She was adopted two weeks after her birth by a Catholic family after her birth mother had died when she was born, becoming their seventh child, and was raised in Shawinigan, a city in Quebec. She attended school at a local convent, developed a passion for music at a young age and trained as a concert pianist. She trained as a teacher after graduating from school but, at the age of twenty, she became involved in film, making her acting debut in Mon enfance à Montréal (1971), directed by Jean Chabot. Three years later, she met director Gilles Carle, who helped her career. Her exotic beauty (her mother has Indian blood), her charm and spontaneity, her dark eyes with light melancholy look, made her a star in French-Canadian cinema. She is not only acting but also sings. Carole has recorded several LPs in French and English, collaborating with Lewis Furey. She also sings in the musical Fantastica (1980) directed by her old friend, Gilles. Laure and Furey continue to split their time between homes in France and Quebec.
