[September 14, 2007] Sentenced to 10 months in prison after police found child pornography on his computer. Freed on 14th November after his 10-month prison sentence was reduced by the Court of Appeal.

Due to the nature of his criminal conviction, almost his entire film and television work has been deemed unsuitable for broadcast, or his contributions have been edited out of repeats.

He was a very successful voice-over artist on British television.

Three sons by his first wife, Sue Jones-Davies; two children by his second, Christine Cartwright. His daughter, Emily Langham, had a part in Help (2005), as a child prodigy.

Studied English and Drama at Bristol University.

He was the sole British writer for The Muppet Show (1976) and famously appeared as the 'special guest star' when Richard Pryor was unable to make it to the recording of the 19th episode of the final season.

In 2003 and 2005, respectively, he portrayed authors George Orwell and John Wyndham in the BBC docudrama George Orwell: A Life in Pictures (2003) and the BBC Four documentary John Wyndham: The Invisible Man of Science Fiction (2005).

He was nominated for an Olivier award for his performance as Bela Zangler in the 1993 West End production of Crazy For You.

Often plays bumbling authority figures, such as Hugh Abbott in The Thick of It (2005), Roy Mallard in People Like Us (1999) and Peter in Help (2005).
