- Was spokesman for "Taster's Choice" coffee in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

- Worked for three month on De Mille's The Ten Commandments, being paid $200 a day, six days a week, plus constant overtime at $250 a day. According to his interview at Sherman Oaks, California, on April 30, 2010, he made more money from the picture than either John Carradine or Vincent Price.
- Began as a labourer at Warner Brothers in the 1940s. While there, contract star Bette Davis, having learned about Landers' heroic exploits while in the merchant marine, arranged for him to get his SAG card and personally paid his initiation fee into the union. He was thus able to gain entry to film acting as an extra.
- Had his upper right lung removed due to a cancerous growth just prior to his guest appearance on Star Trek.
