  • Hubert Lampo was born on September 1, 1920 in Antwerp, Flanders, Belgium. He was a writer and actor, known for The Arrival of Joachim Stiller (1976), Kasper in de onderwereld (1979) and Het oponthoud (1967). He died on July 12, 2006 in Essen, Flanders, Belgium.

  • His most famous novel is the novel 'De komst van Joachim Stiller' (The coming of Joachim Stiller) in 1960. Some 44 reprints of the book have been published.
  • The literary genre of magic realism, which combines a realistic setting with supernatural elements, was made famous by Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and Gabriel Garcia Marquez among other writers.
  • In 1965 he moved to 'The Kempen' with his fourth wife wife Lucia and in 1970 he visited Stonehenge for the first time. He was so impressed by Stonehenge that he would use it repeatedly in his later work. In 1972 he published a collection of essays as "De Zwanen van Stonehenge" ("The Swans of Stonehenge").
  • Hubert Lampo was one of the founders of magic realism in Flanders.
