Jenny Laird was born on February 13, 1912 in Chorlton, Manchester, England, UK. She was an actress and writer, known for Black Narcissus (1947), The Forsyte Saga (1967) and Doctor Who (1963). She was married to John Fernald. She died on October 31, 2001 in Camden, London, England, UK.

Her play, "Ballad Hunter", at the Chicago Dramatists Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, was nominated for a 2000 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work.

British character actress of stage and screen. Educated at Maidstone High School and London University. First job as an advertising copy writer. Theatrical debut with the Brixton Theatre in 'A Bill of Divorcement' (1937). Much active on the West End stage, regional and London fringe theatres, including the Mercury, Embassy and Lyric Hammersmith. Acclaimed for her performance in 'Heartbreak House' (1950) at the Arts Theatre off Leicester Square.

Her daughter is actress Karin Fernald.
