Trivia

Andrew Lack

  • During his career in broadcasting and network news, he has won 16 Emmy Awards, 4 Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Journalism Awards, 5 Ohio State Awards, an Overseas Press Club Award, 2 Gavel Awards from the American Bar Association, a George Polk Award and a Clarion Award.
  • President of NBC News (1993-2001)
  • Started his career in broadcasting by joining CBS News in 1976, where he remained until 1993, when he was named the president of NBC News. At CBS News, he served as a producer on 60 Minutes and CBS Reports.
  • Was President & COO of NBC (from 2001 to 2003), but stepped down in 2003 to take the Chairman & CEO post of Sony Music Entertainment. His old colleague, Howard Stringer, with whom Lack worked with at CBS News in the early 1980's wooed him away from NBC. However, some speculate that Lack and NBC Chairman & CEO, Bob Wright, did not get along and that there was a lot of tension between the two of them.
  • After clearing regulatory clearances, Sony Music Entertainment and Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) have merged their operations together to become Sony-BMG Music Group. Lack is now the Chairman of the newly merged 50-50 joint venture, which is based at Sony's New York City headquarters. (August 2004)
  • Was named by old friend and colleague, Sir Howard Stringer, to become Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, after Tommy Mottola stepped down to found his own record label through Universal Music Group. Lack and Stringer worked together in the early 1980's at CBS News. (2003)
  • Today, Andrew Lack is Executive Producer of the Emmy-nominated series Breaking the Deadlock. He is also advancing nonprofit journalism through Deep South Today and Mississippi Today to build sustainable digital-first news models serving local communities.
