Lisle and his wife, Ruth, both grew up in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border. He has owned and professionally trained bears for the entertainment industry since the 1970s. They have the largest selection of Kodiak and black bears that are used for cinematic films (examples: Quest for Fire (1981), The Edge (1997)), television programs (three episodes of The Sopranos (1999)) and commercials in either Canada or the United States.
