Štefan Kvietik

  • Kvietik's first step towards acting was completing his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts (VSMU) in Bratislava in 1957.
  • In 2019, he received the Art Film Festival President's Award for his contribution to Slovak film art, awarded for the development of film art in the domestic and international context.
  • In 2004, the President of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Gasparovic, awarded him the state decoration of the Order of Ludovít Stur, 2nd class, for exceptional merits in the field of culture and art.
  • After 1989, he entered into politics. From 1990 to 1994, he was a member of the Slovak National Council (SNR). He also served as vice-chairman of the SNR Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
  • As a child, he longed to study medicine. However, he was eventually directed to the theater stage by his parents, who were theater amateurs.
  • He started his career at the Army Theatre in Martin. From 1959, he was a member of the Slovak National Theatre (SND), where he eventually spent half a century.
  • His domain was mostly psychologically realistic characters of robust men.
  • Since 1984, he had also worked as a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts.
  • He entered the Hall of Fame through the OTO Awards for 2009. In 2013, he became the laureate of the Identification Code of Slovakia award, and a year later, on March 9, he received the European Trebbia Award 2014 for lifetime achievement in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle.
  • Heis the fourth Slovak actor to have a granite slab involving his name on the Film Walk of Fame in front of the PO Hviezdoslav City Theatre in Bratislava.
