Amar Kumar became a well known director after the huge success of Mere Sanam starring Asha Parekh & Biswajit. But the film became a hit because of it's memorable soundtrack. People didn't liked the story that much and also criticised for choosing Biswajit as the lead. His other two releases - Mere Hamdam Mere Dost starring Dharmendra & Sharmila Tagore and Pyasi Sham starring Sunil Dutt & Sharmila Tagore, did decent business. Both the films were appreciated for its story & songs. Afterwards, he directed last two films - Barkha Bahar & Mahfil.
