Gave the Salvation Army a gift estimated to be in excess of $1.5 billion. The funds have been specifically designated for the development of community centers across the country, similar to the landmark Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in San Diego that opened two years ago. She loved the Salvation Army and wanted every facility to have an operating chapel. This is the largest donation to a charitable organization up to this date.

She inherited the San Diego Padres from her husband, Ray Kroc, in 1984. She sold the team in April 1990 to a group, led by television producer Tom Werner.

The biggest single private shareholder of the McDonald's fast food chain at the time of her death. Her late husband, Ray Kroc, was the Chairman of McDonald's.

With an estimated net worth of $1.7 billion, Kroc ranked #121 on Forbes magazine's 2003 list of America's wealthiest people.

Left National Public Radio over $200 million dollars in her Will, including $5 million to San Diego NPR station, KPBS.
