- Jiří Křižan was born on October 26, 1941 in Valasské Mezirící, Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia [now Czech Republic]. He was a writer, known for Sekal Has to Die (1998), Soul at Peace (2009) and Shadows of a Hot Summer (1978). He died on October 13, 2010 in Branky, Czech Republic.
- When he was a child, his family was persecuted by the Communist regime. His father was taken political prisoner and executed in 1951.
- Because of his father's political views, Jiri was expelled from high school and blacklisted from colleges for several years. During this time, he wrote several screenplays.
- He was an advisor to Czech president Václav Havel, and served as deputy interior minister.
