Although best known as comedian, he was a versatile actor, who liked to play bad guys in hit shows such as Derrick (1974).

Had two sons with his wife Bettina von Leoprechting, Moritz Krebs (born on 28 September 1979) and Till Krebs (born in 1986).

Reached #3 in Germany's Single Charts with the song "Ich bin der Martin, ne (Martin, my love)", dealing with his longtime stage character "Martin", an environment activist.

Is interred in the Ostfriedhof in his hometown Essen.
