Biography

Leopold Kramer was born on September 29, 1869 in Prague, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary [now Czech Republic]. He was an actor, known for The Ringer (1932), Az utolsó hajnal (1917) and Ecstasy (1933). He was married to Pepi Glöckner-Kramer. He died on October 29, 1942 in Vienna, Austria.

He was able to avoid a deportation but was condemned to passiveness. Four years later he died from a perforation of the stomach.

He was prohibited to work as an actor because of his Jewish ancestry.

The actor Leopold Kramer made his film debut in 1913 with "Johann Strauss an der schönen blauen Donau" (13), it followed the Hungarian production "Az utolso hajnal" directed by Mihály Kertész, who became later the famous director Michael Curtiz in Hollywood.

His last cinematical works came in the 30's into being, among them "Der Hexer" (1932), based on a novel by Edgar Wallace, the then scandalous movie "Ekstase" (1933) with Hedwig Kiesler alias Hedy Lamarr and "Bretter, die die Welt bedeuten" (1935) directed by Kurt Gerron.
