Although she was born in New York and died in Chicago, Jill Kraft lived for years in California and was an alumna of Beverly Hills High School.

The only child of writer H.S. Kraft, at age 19 Jill Kraft wed Louis Morheim on August 27, 1950; the couple divorced several years later. She remarried, to Leonard Hyman, with whom she had a daughter, Lucy (born 1967). Kraft and Hyman remained together until Kraft's death from cancer in 1970 at age 39.
