  • Andrew Kotting made his directorial debut with Gallivant, winning him Channel 4's Best New Director Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1996. He then co-wrote This Filthy Earth with Sean Lock, with whom he'd worked with on Smart Alex. He went through eight drafts of This Filthy Earth before he had a finished script, then brought together the main members of his crew and started to look for suitable locations before deciding on the Yorkshire Dales.Having settled on the location site, a construction crew was brought in to build the village for the film. A budget of £1.2 million, less than what was hoped for, was gathered from the Film Council lottery money, the East London Film Fund, the Yorkshire Media Producton Agency and British Screen
